  PARTNERS

Friends of the Osa works in concert with numerous individuals and organizations to achieve regional conservation goals. Some of our partners include:

The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation

The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation is dedicated to advancing environmental conservation and scientific research around the world. The Foundation played the largest role in acquiring the 1,500 acre Cerro Osa property that now is a part of the Osa Biodiversity Center and houses the Greg Gund Conservation Center.

Conservation International (CI)

Building upon a strong foundation of science, partnership and field demonstration, CI empowers societies to responsibly and sustainably care for nature, our global biodiversity, for the well-being of humanity. CI is the major supporter of our Sea Turtle Conservation Program and was a major donor in the purchase of Cerro Osa.

The Nature Conservancy (TNC)

TNC helped the Costa Rican government create the Osa's Corcovado National Park in 1975. They were a major contributor to the purchase of the Cerro Osa property and recently have been integral in improving the connectivity between Corcovado and Piedras Blancas National Parks with the acquisition of a 1,500 acre conservation property called Santa Cecilia.

American Bird Conservancy (ABC)

ABC is a 501(c)(3), not-for profit organization whose mission is to conserve native wild birds and their habitats throughout the Americas. It is the only U.S.-based group with a major focus on bird habitat conservation throughout the entire Americas. ABC acts across the full spectrum of threats to birds to safeguard the rarest bird species, restore habitats, and reduce threats, unifying and strengthening the bird conservation movement. ABC was a major contributor to the purchase of the Cerro Osa property to protect and restore bird-friendly habitat.

Wisconsin Natural Resources Foundation (NRF)

Wisconsin NRF's mission is to create opportunities for people who care about Wisconsin's lands, waters and wildlife to deepen their understanding and appreciation for these natural resources, to support state and local conservation programs, and to establish conservation endowments. NRF provides support for the restoration of 50 acres of degraded forest on the Osa Peninsula, making it richer habitat for Wisconsin's migrating birds.

Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC)

NRDC's mission is to safeguard the Earth: its people, its plants and animals and the natural systems on which all life depends. NRDC provides support for the restoration of 50 acres of degraded forest on the Osa Peninsula as part of their Revive a Rainforest campaign.

Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR)

In order to implement full life cycle conservation for their breeding birds, WDNR contributed $23,600 towards the purchase of the Cerro Osa property and will donate another $25,000 this year under the auspices of Southern Wings to conserve wintering grounds habitat for their neotropical migrant species. Encouraged by WDNR's successful partnership with FOO, Iowa's DNR has contributed $5,000 to protect tropical habitat for their migrant birds.

Wisconsin Bird Conservation Initiative (WBCI)

WBCI is a cooperative partnership to deliver the full spectrum of bird conservation emphasizing volunteer stewardship. WBCI is the main organizer of our annual Conservation Birding Trips that raise money to protect bird-friendly habitat, focused on conserving the wintering grounds for neotropical migrant species.

The Expedition School

We thank Kimery Duda of The Expedition School for volunteering her expertise and time to train our staff in Wilderness First Aid and CPR. The Expedition School's goal is to broaden the horizons of students and participants in the context of their learning environment with hands-on education. The Expedition School utilizes nature as its classroom. This classroom - the ocean, desert, mountains, glaciers, and rainforests - challenges and inspires individuals of all ages.

Partners In Flight / Compañeros en Vuelo / Partenaire d'Envol (PIF)

In cooperation with national and international agencies and organizations, Partners In Flight works to conserve all landbirds, protect at-risk species especially before they become vulnerable, and "to keep common birds common." PIF achieves this through voluntary partnerships for birds, habitats and people. Friends of the Osa works with PIF to conserve Osa landbird species through scientifically-based avian monitoring design and conservation of migratory and resident bird species through habitat protection and restoration.

Ministry of Environment & Energy, Costa Rica (MINAE)

MINAE's mission is to contribute to the sustainable development of Costa Rica through the conservation and rational use of natural resources, and improve the development of the country and the quality of life of its people. MINAE works in conjunction with our Land Stewardship and Sea Turtle Conservation Programs to reduce hunting and poaching in public and private protected areas.

CAVU

CAVU is dedicated to educating and engaging stakeholders about natural resource management throughout the Americas. Using the power of flight, the medium of film and the transformative nature of education, CAVU brings diverse societies a new perspective on the fragility and scarcity of their land and resources.

Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS)

The Wildlife Conservation Society saves wildlife and wild places worldwide. We do so through science, global conservation, education and the management of the world's largest system of urban wildlife parks, led by the flagship Bronx Zoo. Together these activities change attitudes towards nature and help people imagine wildlife and humans living in harmony. WCS is committed to this mission because it is essential to the integrity of life on Earth.

Bosque del Cabo Lodge

A rainforest lodge in a 500-acre private primary forest reserve perched along the picturesque cliffs of Cabo Matapalo. Located in the Osa National Wildlife Refuge in an area designated as protected wildlife habitat.

El Remanso Lodge

A wildlife lodge located in the Osa National Wildlife Refuge. Dedicated to forest and wildlife conservation, this lodge boasts pristine tropical rainforest and stunning ocean views.
